Success is About Grit and Versatility
Success is About Grit and Versatility
Achieving success isn’t about having a perfect or great start; it’s about committing daily to growth, adding value to yourself and others, and simply refusing to give up on your valid dreams.
During professional law school journey, I studied alongside individuals from unexpected backgrounds—a butcher, a cloth trader, and a cement seller. Many would assume they weren’t well-positioned for this path, yet there they were, in the same law class. It wasn’t their background that determined their success but their determination, versatility, and thirst for excellence.
This is something I want you to reflect on as you journey through life.
What is grit?
Grit is the ability to persevere in the face of challenges. Many dreams have been lost simply because someone gave up too soon. Some dreams take longer to materialize, my darling girl, but the delay doesn’t mean the dream isn’t meant for you.
I wish I could explain why some things take so long, but I cannot. What I can tell you is this: if you’re pursuing a path that brings good to you and is a genuine blessing to others, don’t give up.
What about versatility?
Versatility doesn’t mean abandoning your determination; it means adapting, reassessing and strategizing when necessary. When a dream seems to be taking longer than expected, take a step back and reevaluate. Ask yourself:
- How can I approach this differently?
- What strategies can I improve?
- What changes can I make to better position myself for the success of this dream.
Versatility is about being flexible without losing sight of your goal.
Girl, life is a balance of grit and versatility. Embrace both, and you’ll see your dreams come true in ways you never imagined.
I hope you are empowered to make a go at those dreams.
