SOME MOVIES FOR THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON
Christmas is here, and one of our favorite traditions as a family is watching movies together. This year, my kids chose Enoch, a film about the life of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, produced by Solid Rock and Mount Zion productions. The movie is a treasure trove of lessons, and I’m excited to share a few key takeaways with you:
- The Power of Godly Influence
As a young man, Pastor Adeboye was known as a “Ladies’ Man” and wasn’t seen as someone likely to settle down soon. However, when he met his wife, Foluke, everything changed. On his birthday, while others brought him extravagant gifts, eager to make an impression, Foluke gave him a Bible , reflecting love for eternal values. This simple act stood out, reflecting her godly nature. A man may have many suitors around him, but the seed of godliness in a woman is what truly appeals to his spirit.
- The Hidden Battles of Life
In their first five years of marriage, the Adeboye family faced numerous troubles, particularly with health. On the surface, they appeared fine, but internally, they were struggling. Many people carry burdens that are invisible to the world. Without Christ and the peace He brings, these burdens can be overwhelming.
- The Futility of Worldly Solutions
Desperate for help, Pastor Adeboye turned to herbalists and native doctors. One charm he got was supposed to protect him from accidents, but that very day, he barely escaped a life-threatening crash. Another charm promised protection from evil, yet its maker suffered calamity, making Papa Adeboye question his reason for even taking asking for that charm. The world often offers solutions it cannot sustain; only God’s power is enduring.
- You Are Someone’s Answer
When Papa Adeboye walked into the Redeemed Christian Church of God seeking help, he was an answer to the prayers of the General Overseer (GO). Like Saul meeting Samuel, your challenges may position you as a solution to someone else’s prayer.
- Radical Obedience Reflects Deep Gratitude
At a service where members were asked to empty their accounts and give to God, the Adeboye’s were the only ones who obeyed. Indeed he who has been forgiven much, loves much. Their obedience stemmed from a heart of gratitude.
- Don’t Kick Against God’s Will
When Papa Adeboye heard he would be made a Pastor, he and his wife, obviously against his wife’s better judgment, fasted for 14 days, praying for their GO to change his decision. His wife lovingly challenged his resistance, and the prayer didn’t work. You cannot fight against God’s plan.
- God Uses the Humble and Devoted
Pastor Adeboye’s GO was an uneducated man but had a deep walk with God. He led the church to spiritual growth and even took pastors to Kenneth Hagin’s camp meetings. He spent time working on Papa Adeboye, praying and encouraging him, because he knew what God wanted to use Papa Adeboye for. God often uses the seemingly unqualified to accomplish extraordinary things.
- A Godly Transition is Peaceful
When the GO’s time on earth was nearing its end, he knew it and referred to his departure as “boarding a flight.” Like the patriarchs of old—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—he gave instructions before transitioning. Those who walk closely with God do not fear death; they see it as a transition.
- The Weight of Leadership
After Pastor Adeboye was announced as the new GO, some resisted the decision, believing they were more deserving. Yet, they didn’t understand the sacrifices he had to make, including leaving his job and home to serve God fully. Envy often stems from ignorance of the sacrifices behind someone’s calling. Ignore it and stay focused on your purpose.
- Walking in God’s Promise
Pastor Adeboye’s ministry is a testament to God’s faithfulness. The key to his success has been knowing what God has promised and walking in alignment with His will. The greatest gift in life is knowing God’s plan for you and following it wholeheartedly.
Final Thoughts
For me, as a minister, this movie was a vivid portrayal of God’s grace and HIS transformative work in our lives. It beautifully illustrates the results of wholehearted obedience and dedication to Him.
If you’re looking for an inspiring movie this Christmas, Enoch is a must-watch. It’s a story of faith, resilience, and the amazing ways God works through our lives. You’ll love it!
Merry Christmas! 🎄
